Why A Mercedes-Benz Should Be Your Next Car – Part 1

Posted on Posted in Opinion

Car buyers are spoilt for choice these days when it comes to new cars in Singapore. Deciding on the right one takes careful consideration and it’s means finding the balance amongst a few factors; reliability, power, space, affordability, and brand prestige.

If you’re looking for a no-frills, beater, point A to point B ride then it’s a no brainer. There are plenty of brand new Toyotas and Hondas that go for below $900 per month. It’s as simple as selecting the right style (sedan, SUV, MPV, hatch) and then choosing one that looks right to you. Most of them feel and drive the same. They are not terribly exciting but most don’t buy them for their drive.

If you are budgeting around $1-1,300 per month for your car, then it’s no longer just about getting from point A to B. You are probably interested in a different ownership experience. Daily commutes don’t just mean getting to work or sending the kids to school, but also about enjoying the journey there.

If that’s the case, it is in our opinion that your next car should be a Mercedes-Benz. It checks all the boxes:

Mercedes-Benz don’t make the cheapest cars in the market, but they are reasonably priced to buy and own. Most importantly, we think they provide some of the best value around. With the right type of structuring, we believe that most Singaporean families will be able to comfortably own a brand new Mercedes-Benz in their lifetime, but more on this in another post.

Design and Styling

Owning a Mercedes-Benz portrays a subtle type of confidence and professionalism. While previous generations of Mercedes can look very serious, the new model range has been completely redesigned. The philosophy of “Sensual Purity and Modern Luxury” means sculpted lines and a clean form paired with the latest technology. This approach to car design appeals to our innate appreciation of beauty and grace, simply put – they produce good looking cars.

You can’t deny everyone looks good stepping out of a Mercedes-Benz.

The interior has also been designed to create a revolutionary experience for the driver. The seats provide great support and the pebbled Artico leather feels smooth to the touch. More noticeably the driver’s cockpit is unparalleled in design with the MBUX display and lighting interface.

One customer of ours described it perfectly “I find myself smiling each time I walk to my car“.

Drive and Performance

Mercedes has always been known for it’s comfortable and refined drive and the newest line-up does not disappoint in this aspect. Cabins are well-insulated even in the compact A-Class, your daily commutes are guaranteed to be comfortable. The engines are engineered to be a beast when you want it to, and it purrs quietly along all other times.

But how does it compare to other big continental brands?

Very generally speaking, we find BMW produces drivers’ cars – more road feel and less comfort but you get more feedback from the road for an engaging drive. Audis can have an uninspired driving feel, that doesn’t make it feel worth the money you spent. VW cars provide great fun to price ratio, initially, but the forums are filled with after sales headaches and complaints. Mercedes-Benz is now one of the rare makes that combines the best of these brands. These cars are not made to be merely powerful or fast, instead these machines are built so they are extraordinary to own.

Safety is a Priority

Mercedes-Benz cars all have 5-Stars Euro NCAP safety ratings. The stars rating system is determined by stressing the cars through real-life accident scenarios. Mercedes-Benz cars are designed to keep it’s occupants safe even without any of the new safety technology built into most cars.

As standard, driver and passengers alike are protected with front, side, and knee airbags, belt tensioners. Most new models now come with updated safety features like Brake Assist, Attention Assist, and PRE-SAFE systems. Not only do the cars keep you safe in the event of an accident, but it’s actively working to take you out of accident situations.
